Information
This Site is maintained by Thorsten Reitz aka khaine, based in Furtwangen, Germany. I currently study Computer and Media sciences at the University of Applied Science in Furtwangen. You can find my personal page soon under www.purplemachine.de/purple. Also, if you are interested in the university, check out www.mi-fhf.de! You will soon find a guide to the city and a few other things there.
This site exists since 12/1999 and has been extended ever since. The scripts that handle voting, submissions, the arcgive and a few other things were continously improved, and are still beding changed. The next thing I will do is chaning the voting system; you will be able to assign a first, second and third place, and you'll have to log in to vote. This is primarily because my current script contains only an IP checker, which is a disadvantage for people who sit behind a proxy (like me).

The Spell of the Month Contest Rules     [return to top]

So, you have finally found your way to the rules section of this contest. I am trying to make this a fair contest, as interesting as possible and as uncomplicated as possible, but a few rules need to be:
  • Submitting: When you submit a spell to SOTM, you automatically give SOTM the right to use it on this page only. For further uses, authorization through the author is still required. Your copyright on the spell(s) you made remains intact, of course, so others have to contact the respective authors as well if they want to use (in websites, printed publications ...) spells or parts of them in SOTMs archives.
  • Submitting: Please submit complete spells, that is, fill out all elements of the form. You can also submit spells via eMail, which I will then enter manually. Submitting is always open.
  • Voting: Voting is also always open. However, to give all spells that were entered during the course of a month an equal chance, voting on a spell is only possible in the month after it was submitted. One example: During Febuary, you can vote on all spells entered in January. During march, you will be able to vote on all spells entered during Febuary.
  • Results: Results will be sent via the mailing list and will be posted in the NEWS-Section of this site in the first week of each month.
  • Winning: The winner is the spell that recieved the most votes. The winner does not gain anything through winning except the honor and is allowed to use the graphics below, just some of them or all of them. The winner is encouraged to use these as links back to SOTM.
  • Neither me nor any of the other webmasters at ccp are eligible for submitting entries. We may vote, though. Everybody can vote only once during a month.
  • If your spell doesn't manage to make first place in a month but is very original anyway, you might get a special creativity award. This award is given out by the webmaster and is not necessarily given out each month.
  • If your spell wins, you get the right to use these graphics whereever you like. Please make these images links back to spell of the month using the following code:
    <a href="http://www.purplemachine.de/sotm/"><img src="path" height="16" width="64" alt="sotm"></a>
Of course, you will need to replace "path" with the URL of the image you want to use. You can either call them from my server or upload them to your own server. To get the URLs of the pictures here, just right-click on one and select "Display in new window". The URL will then appear in the location bar.
Note that these rules are nothing but a first draft and are subject to changes. If you want to be updated of changes in the rules, subscribe to the SOTM mailing list.
